University of California at Los Angeles Ph.D. and Professor, joined the Department July 1, 1997. He is Founding Editor of the journals, Brain & Language and Brain & Cognition and Consulting Editor for the journal The Mental Lexicon. PY400, History of Psychology, PY441, Individual Differences, and PY303, Introduction to Neuropsychology, are his major teaching assignments. For his research in neuropsychology and neurolinguistics, he was elected a Fellow of the American Psychological Association’s Division 6 (Behavioral Neuroscience and Comparative Psychology) in 1986 and for his research in the history of psychology he was elected a Fellow of APA’s Division 26 (History) in 1997. Current research projects include: Editor of the section on language and brain, Encyclopedia of Language and Linguistics 2 (published by Elsevier Science), Editor (with C. Smith and S. Finger) of Brain, Mind and Medicine: Neuroscience in the 18th Century (to be Published by Springer), and Author of INTRODUCTION TO INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES: Neurological and Psychological Dimensions (with Joshua Dobias (University of New Hampshire), Sarah Kimar (Wayne State University), Kevin Baker, Matt Blazek, Holly Hagen, Marissa Peterson, Craig Johnson and Eric Mumma (Northern Michigan University) to be published by John Benjamins) and a variety of articles and reviews in the history of psychology and cognitive neuroscience. His outside interests include classical and country & western music, chess, backgammon, science fiction movies, papier mache. Recent activities this year (2009): lectured at Vanderbilt University, and the University of Louisville, and, with a student, presented a paper at the annual meeting of the International Society for the History of Neuroscience.
