Dr. Maya Sen
Associate Professor of Psychology
Ph.D. (Child Psychology), Institute of Child Development, University of Minnesota, 1999
My general area of research interest is gender development in infancy and early childhood. My primary focus is on gender-based schematic processing: the ways that knowlege and affect about gender influence young children's and adults' processing of gender-related information. With funding from an NIH R03 grant, I am currently developing new measures to assess gender knowledge (e.g., gender stereotypes, self-identification by sex) in children 6 to 30 months of age.
I am originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. I was a post-doc at the Centre for Research in Human Development at Concordia University in Montreal for two years. I enjoy reading mysteries and science fiction, watching movies, the outdoors, traveling, and spending time with my two cats, Leia and Zoey.
